My name is Sheila Benedict and I am a professional genealogist for about twenty-five years. I hope that I can be of assistance with my expertise in historical, genealogical, and legal research. The Importance of Collateral Research

What makes collateral research so important? Collateral relatives share the same ancestry but not the same direct line of descent. Researching those relatives, along with those that lived and worked within the same community could add new dimension to your research. Two synonyms for collateral are parallel and auxiliary. We will discuss the value of collateral research, both parallel and auxiliary, using familiar documents from a different perspective.
